The split "self" of Parker reveals the pains he encountered in the way he pursued salvation. In the course of pursuing, Parker confused soul perfection with body perfection. Parker never accepted the harmony between body and soul until he eventually came to know and accepted Jesus Christ. The pursuit thus proved to be a process of conversion to God. O'Conner's Parker's Back is a vivid representation of Parker's conversion and also a realistic revelation to the world that one can get salvation only through Grace and faith in God.
