Eukaryotic gene expression is a complicated process which involves transcription, pre-messenger RNA splicing, and other pre-mRNA processing steps. Transcription and pre-mRNA splicing are the key nuclear processes in gene expression, and both of them require multi-component protein complex to serve their function. Transcription and splicing are not independent events. Co- transcriptional splicing emerges as a new concept. Several protein factors common to both processes have suggested that they are functionally coordinated. Recently, RNA polymerase Ⅱ , SKIP, SMN, p100 protein were found to be the members involved in the gene transcription and splicing as well. The investigation of these cross-talk proteins will lead to the understanding of the mechanism of transcription and splicing.
