The paper, based on the analysis of its creative context, holds that Hamlet was endowed with both the common spirit of the humanists in the renaissance period, and the personal characteristic given by the unique living circumstances. For Hamlet, the topic "to be or not to be" reveals his ambivalence and conflicts in the face of choices, but also is a demonstration of his calm and determination while making choices in conflicts. It is the echo of the conscience and responsibility that results in Hamlet's choices. He achieved the immortality in his own sense by the destruction of life. The ever-lasting charm of Hamlet just lies in the melancholy meditation on the question of "to be or not to be"
