后现代主义将文本泛化,认为"文本就是一切,文本之外别无他物"。后现代主义小说家不仅混杂各种文学体裁,拆除文学的"内部边界",而且试图抹杀文学与非文学的区别,打破文学的"外部边界",从而构成后现代主义小说的共同特征,如意义的不确定性、内容的荒诞性、形式上的非连续性、文本结构的无序性和混沌性、文本自我反映的操作性以及语言高度实验化等,而这些都是通过采用戏仿、拼贴、大众化和互文性等后现代主义文本策略实现的。
The denotation of post-modern text is greatly widened, as good as to say "There is nothing but text" (Derrida). American post-modern novelists mix different literary genres to break the inner boundary in literature, try to obliterate the differences of literature and non-literature to break the outside boundary in literature, which become its common characteristics: uncertainty in meaning, absurdity in contents, non-continuity in form, disorder and chaos in textual composition, and operation in textual self-reflection. And all this is achieved by adopting such text strategies as parody, collage and intertextuality.
