This paper uses the concept of 'superstition as educational means' to describe the narrative features of Ming-Qing novels, including the construction of temporal-spatial framework with religious description, the formulation of the story, the establishment of narrative authority, the expression of creative intention, the unfolding of the plot, and the designing of characters. The writers used to rely on religious description to build up a symbolic atmosphere of the story, the characters and the images so as to elevate it onto the philosophical level. To make a historical survey of this narrative that bears the marks of national tradition is helpful for the interpretation of Ming-Qing novels, for the discovery of the quintessence of national literature, and for the establishment of a narrative theory of our own.
