From Dominus Winery in Yountville,California to the Laban Dance Centre in Deptford,south-east London, from the Prada flag store in Tokyo to the Eberswalde Technical School Library,Herzog & de Meuron have never ceased their exploration of architectural surface. In their newly built project,Information Communication and Media Center of Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus, surface even becomes a tool for them to"challenge"the tradition. They use glass and the technology of screen printing to create a soft and brisk surface and make the hard glass look like graceful fabric. As people have expected, this beautiful castle which took Herzog & de Meuron ten years to design helps to revive the banal ex-industrial center.
