The Self-Similar Traffic and Its Impact on the Performance of ATM Networks

摘要 近年来,通过对VBR视频速率、TCP/FTP分组到达及长度和以太网业务流量的大量统计,发现很多业务在本质上表现了自相似(或称分形)的特性,即在不同时间尺度上表现出结构的相似性。本文对自相似业务的定义、性质和生成方法进行了综述,讨论了自相似业务对ATM网络性能的影响。最后,指出了有待进一步深入研究的课题。 Recently, statistical analsis of high -resolution measurenments of several types of network traffic. e. g, VBR video. TCP/FTP packet boval and sise, and, Ethemet traffic, has sb0Wn tbat many types of network are self - similar or fortal in nature,i. e., they display structural sforties arross a wide rang of time scales.this paper gives an overview of self-similarity, including thedefinition and Properties of Self-similar traffic and various approaches to geerating self-similar sample path,and examies the effect ofself-similar traffic on the performance of ATM networks.The fortions for further Study are also discussed.
