贾宝玉和陶渊明,一个是小说中的人物,一个是历史上的诗人。二人看似风马牛不相及,但从某种角度看,他们其实是同一类人:对家庭、对社会都缺乏足够的责任感,因而在某种程度上都可说是"于国于家无望"之人。
Being a well-known poet in Chinese history, Tao Yuanming seemed to be irrelevant with Jia Baoyu, a main character in Chinese classical novel Dream of Red Mansions. However they were viewed as the sort of persons who lacked sufficient responsibilities for their own family and society they were in. Therefore they were believed, to a certain extent, to be futile to the world around them .
