The CdS nanocrystals were grown in the SiO 2 molecular sieve by physics vapour transport for the first time. The PL spectra were measured at 77 K. The position the width and the intensity of the emission band changed with increasing the growth time. These phenomena showed the formation process of CdS nanocrystal in SiO 2 molecular sieve. The emission band narrowing and confinement effect were observed.
