Based on the Dunhuang Manuscripts and Buddhist Scripture, this paper makes a new textual research on the meaning of“ Shang - xia” (上下) , which is one of the musical symbols in the recitation and singing of the Transformation Texts and originated in the percussive music and orchestra music of the Buddhism. When"Shang - xia" (上下) is used with"Yin" (吟) and"Gu -yin" (古吟), it represents an agreement between the vocal music and the instrumental music.
