A Cognitive Approach to the Meaning of Some English Modals

摘要 情态动词具有多义性的特点。运用“力”这一认知图式可解释情态动词意义的本质,运用隐喻这一认知手段可说明情态动词的多义性。 Modal verbs are polysemous. This paper analyses the meanings of models based on the ＂force dynamics＂ view and explains the metaphorical connection among different meanings of a model.
