With N-methyl-5- methoxyl-2- nitroaniline as a pivotal organic intermedium, the derivative of benzimidazole was synthesized with the 5-chloro-2-nitroaniline （ 1 ） as the starting material through four-step process such as through substitution, acetylation, methylation and then deacetylation to give the title compound（5 , and its struc- ture was determined by HNMR.
