D.H. Lawrence has long been bitterly criticized as a misogynist. Undeniably, some credibility of such a judgement could be derived if his autobiographical work Sons and Lovers is attended. But it remains questionable whether he was indeed of that type or he simply consciously pick up and took advantage of such a psychological location in composition for more projecting artistic effect. This paper shall try to clarify this with evidence from his life records, his works, with arguments from narratology, and with analysis as to his peculiar location employed in character depiction in Sons and Lovers and Tickets, Please.
