On November 18, 2006 the 450 kt/a PTA unit at SINOPEC Yangzi Petrochemical Company （YPC） was put on stream, making the total PTA capacity at YPC reach 1.05 Mt/a. YPC has become the first enterprise under SINOPEC equipped with more than 1.0 Mt/a throughput of PTA to become a major PTA production base. The construction of this 450 kt/a PTA expansion unit was started on March 22, 2004 with the investment totaling over 2 billion RMB. This unit has adopted the technology licensed by the British Invista Company, and the Sinopec Engineering Incorporation, SINOPEC Shanghai Engineering Comoanv and Yangzi Engineering Design Company were responsible jointly for the process unit design. The new unit is merged with the existing PTA unit, with the utility facilities, raw materials transportation and storage, and finished packing and transport facilities totally hinged upon the existing facilities. This unit features large production scale and high product quality to reduce the material and energy consumption. This unit can realize a saving of feedstock equating to 1700 t/a of paraxylene and an energy saving equating to 48 kt/a of SOE on an average and is equipped with the latest tailgas cleanup technology through catalytic oxidation.
