As two important novels of the understratum narration, There (written by Cao Zhenglu) and So Big a Couple of Sheep (Written by Xia Tianmin) have similar narrative structure and the same discourse pattern. In the surface layer, both texts take the "salvation" as their backbone and end with Faramita images, thus accomplishing the deconstruction of the Reform discourse in which the reality of the understratum has always been vailed. On the other hand, the understratum simulacrum strives for authenticity and universality while adopting the method in which the people in subclass are simply looked on as a specimen or a symbol, thus containing inherent conflict in its deep layer. Therefore, the understratum narration is still on the way-it's strategy and plight imply the plight of the chinese contemporary intellectuals when they meet the people in subclass as well as that of the chinese modernity.
