In this paper the author tries to offer a feminist approach to Nathaniel Hawthorne's masterpiece The Scarlet Letter, attempting to have a better understanding of the protagonist Hester Prynne,. who committed adultery for love, but later transformed from an adulteress into a womanof independent mind by clinging to love and rebelling against the seventeenth New England Puritan society in pursuit of individual rights.
