摘要
著名美国现代女作家伊迪斯.沃顿,在她的长篇小说《欢乐之家》中,以女主角莉莉.巴特在男权社会中的不幸遭遇为例,为读者阐述了20世纪伊始时女子的生活和婚姻困境。结婚是这些女子的唯一出路,婚后侍奉丈夫是她们的天职,家中天使是她们必须的角色。谁违背了这个准则,谁就得下地狱。美丽、善良、聪明,但是虚荣、脆弱的莉莉就是生活在这样的一个社会中,社会背景和自身性格造成了她的悲剧结局。
Edith Wharton, the famous American contemporary female writer,illustrates in the House of Mirth the life and marriage plight of the women in the beginning of 20th Century, through the tragedy in male socialy of Lily Bart who is the title- role in the moval. To get marry is their only outlet; to serve husband after marriage is their vocation; and to be the angle at home is their must role. Anyone who breaks the rule should get punished. It is such a society in which beautiful, kind and fragile Lily lives. The social background and her own characteristics cause her tragic ending.
