Homeobox genes(Hox genes) are some highly conserved DNA sequences on the chromosomes. The protein products of Hox genes, as transcription factors, are also highly conserved. These genes play a central role in the developmental processes of the anterior-posterior axis of vertebrates by regulating the fetafion, and define body pattern in the vertebrates. Sea urchin is a kind of familiar invertebrate and main aquatic animal. Its Hox genes can regulate and control the form of its animal-vegetal axis, so it is very important for evolution research and production of sea urchin. We have reviewed the latest studies of the Hox genes of sea urchin in this article.
