摘要
作为高等教育研究领域中的一个新问题,“边界”之于大学既是一种崭新的理论视角,亦是一种形象的比喻。在机构活动的层面上,大学边界可以确保人类高深知识与文化传播链条的连续性;在组织制度的层面上,大学边界的功能则在于维护大学在诸多社会组织中的独特性。在今天,对于边界的界定与坚守关乎大学存在的种种合法性;与此同时,超越边界则往往意味着大学失去稳定性,面临重新合法化的选择。
The "boundary" of the university has become a new area in higher education research: it offers both a new theoretical perspective and a metaphor. The activity boundary of the university maintains the link between advanced knowledge and culture dissemination, while the institutional boundary of the university safeguards the unique organisational features of the university. The marking and defending of university boundaries are crucial to legitimise the operation of the university, and going beyond conventional boundaries often destablises the university and hence demands a new process of legitimisation.
