In contemporary China, study of fundamental theory of archival science as a relatively independent branch or a theoretical form is basically mature. It is characterized by keeping close contact with archival cause, archival practice, world-wide theoretical fruits and other branch subjects. Research subjects refer to five aspects: the fundamental theory of archives and archives administration; key theoretical questions in practical work; key theoretical questions in archival cause and management system; the nature, level and dovelopment degree of archives science. Of all theSe, theoreical recognition of archives and archives phenomena is of main importance, which determines the nature, model and trend of archives science.Theoretical achievements in the subjects mentioned above, and in classification, appraisal and recognition of archives science are noticeable, although some disputes still exist.It is our duty to introduce them to colleagues all over the world
