A model based on fractal geometry was suggested to simulate the porous structure of calcined limestone, and the fractal dimension was calculated on the basis of experimentally obtained pore size distribution density. Since the specific surface area of calcined limestone increases, while the average pore radius decreases with reduction of the fractal dimension, it was found that optimum utilization is achieved when limestone is calcined to a structure with fractal dimension between 2. 50 and 2. 65.It is also suggested that this fractal dimension, obtained from calcination under normal conditions, be an alternative ranking index for calcium-based sorbents.
