Near Kobe the central mountains at Japan come in closest proximity to the ocean. This building is located in a residential district at site Is a south-facing. 60-degree slope. From the site. there is a panoramic view extending from Osaka Bay to the port of Kobe. In Japan we have wrought havoc on nature by culling ouf stepped bulldlng lots. so I was determined at this site to take a fresh approach to the way a building relates With nature. In elder to merge the structure Into Its verdant surroundings it was necessary to sink It into the ground along the slope and restrain its height The building is composed of a group of units, each measuring 54 meters by 48 meters. In section, it follows the slope, and In plan, It symmetrieal. In stepping up the slope. gaps are intentionally created. The gaps entire building at the same time they serve as building serve as mechanical spaces and promote ventilation and Insulation. The twenty units plied up on the lace of the slope are all terrace, and there are many different views available.
