The Kunmingchi Pool-site lies in the area of Doumen Town and Xiliu Town of Chang'an District, Xi'an City, Shaanxi Province. Here, The Han Chang'an City Archaeological Team, IA, CASS, carried out drill-prospecting and trial excavation in April to September 2005. They clarified on the whole the site' s scope and date, and the distribution of water drawing and escape canals, heights in the pool and the ruined buildings on the pool shore, and discovered the sites of ancient Haochi and Biaochi pools. The trial excavation shows that the early pool shore was a stretch of sterile soil and was built in the Han period. In the late Tang period, it was repaired and reinforced with boulders. According to literal records, the pool was built in the third year of Yuanshou reign, Western Han period, repaired and dredged thrice in the Tang period, and gradually abandoned later.
