Objective: To study the mechanism of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor ( ACEI ) in inhibiting the intimal hypertrophy of injured rat artery. Methods: The rat model of injured carotid artery was established by balloon catheter. Twenty Wistar male rats were divided into ACEI group and control group. The percentage of ceils positive for platelet-derived growth factor-B (PDGF-B) and elastase Ⅲ B was determined 2 and 5 days after the injury. Results: The percentage of ceils positive for PDGF-B and elastase Ⅲ B in ACEI group was significantly higher than that in control group. Conclusion: ACEI alleviates intimal hypertrophy by inhibiting PDGF and elastase.
