The greatest feature and distinguished contribution of Mill＇ s concept of liberty lie in it that in order to strike out an absolute individual liberty which belongs only to individual private life without any interference, Mill has had a systemically logical explanation of the liberal limitation, individual opinions, personality development from the angle of relationship between individual and society. Unlike the classic liberalists, whose theory is based on constructionist rationalism and moral idealism, Mill takes empiricism and utilitarianism as the foundation of his liberal theory. Because of its profound one - sidedness, Mill＇ s thought of liberty provides us with a lot of subsidiary awareness and ideological resources for building socialism characterized by market economy, democratic politics and spiritual civilization.
