[Objective] To investigate effects of lead exposure on pregnancy outcome, lead acetate was administrated during early gestation, late gestation and whole gestation. [Methods] The rats were orally feeded with 0. 025% lead acetate during different gestations. The lead level in maternal blood was measured by means of grathite furnace atomic absortion spectrometry at the end of pregnancy. The abnormal pregnancy and the number, body weight of rat pups were observed. [Results] The abnormal pregnant rate of rats exposed with lead was higher than that of control, but the difference was not statistical(P〈0.05). The maternal lead in blood were higher than 0. 483μmol/L. And the maternal lead, body weight of rat pups were significantly different among the groups(P〈0.01). [Conclusion] Lead transmitted through placenta was an important cause of lead accumulation of offspring. Lead exposure during different gestations had bad effects on growth and development of rat pups.
