摘要
本文讨论了两个在植物学文献中使用极其混乱的果实术语——聚合果和聚花果的英文名,认为聚合果和聚花果本来的英文名应该分别是“multiplefruit”和“compoundfruit”。同时,还应该考虑一些长期使用、约定俗成的英文名。因而,近期植物学课本和词典中经常使用的另外两个英文名“aggregatefruit”和“collectivefruit”分别相当于“multiplefruit”和“compoundfruit”。
English names of two fruit terms-multiple （aggregate） fruit and compound （collective） fruit are discussed, for which they have been notoriously confused in botanical literatures. Present author suggests that ＂multiple fruit＂ and ＂compound fruit＂ respectively should be proper English names for ＂a fruit derived from many ovaries in a single flower＂ and ＂a fruit derived from many ovaries of many flowers＂ Meanwhile, English names of those terms with the longer established meaning should be given consideration. Thus, another two English names, ＂aggregate fruit＂ and ＂collective fruit＂, frequently used in recent botanical textbooks and dictionaries are respectively equivalent to ＂multiple fruit＂ and ＂compound fruit＂.
