Abstract In this paper, the formulae representing the coefficients of p th Order (n,n) rational approximations (with n parameters) to the function exp(q) were obtained,when p n 1. The necessary and sufficient conditions of A-acceptability for these rational approximations were given. As a example of this theory, the (4, 4)rational approximation R(q;α,β, γ δ) of order at least 4 to the function exp(q) was constructed, where α,β, γ and b are free parameters. The necessary and sufficient conditions for the function R(q; α, β, γ,δ) to be A-acceptable were demonstrated.Finally, we constructed one step fourth order derivative method and third order derivative hybrid method, with 4 free parameters. The conditions of A-stability for these methods were given.
