摘要
语音象征指语言在长期使用的过程中，依据语言符号象似性的原理，某些语音常用于表示某种意思，给人某种语义联想，这些语音似乎具有了自己固定的象征含义。这类象征，不论是直接的还是联觉的，在文学语言中都被作为一种富于表现力的形象手段。
The paper aims to investigate English sound symbolism, which is a language universal. In the course of long years of use and in the light of iconicity of the English language symbols, some sounds are often used to express certain meaning, and give us certain semantic association. These sounds have even acquired fixed meaning. Words based on sound symbolism, whether direct or synaesthetic, are onomatopoeically motivated to a certain extent in literary works.
