摘要
文章从神话原型批评的角度对《卡斯特桥市长》这部作品进行了分析和阐释,认为决定亨查德悲剧命运的不仅仅是传统观点所支持的“性格命运”说,而且是人与社会发展的冲突,人深深陷在社会新旧交替冲突之中,不能顺应社会发展潮流,最终必将成为社会发展的牺牲品。
After analyzing The Mayor of Casterbridge from the point of myth archetype, the paper holds the point that the fate of Henchard is not decided by traditional doctrine ＂character fate＂, but also the conflict between human being and society, in which persona plunges into the conflict of the changing society. He cannot comply with the development of the society and becomes the victim of the history.
