Abstract The title product which has a great future in use may be prepared by adding higher fatty alcohol 1 mol ,Catalyst A 0. 017 mol and p-dihydroxybenzene as anti-polymerization agent 2%,(on methyl methacrylate weight) into a flask, stirring the mixture, raising temperature to 105℃,dropping methyl methacrylate 1.1 mol within 4￣ 5h,heating to 130℃ in 3￣4h,and stopping heating,followed by distilling the mixture to recover the unreacted components and toluene, and finally cleaning and distilling in pressure reduction the product to obtain colourless transparent higher fatty ester of methyl acrylic acid.Leathers retanned with the multifunctional retanning agent based on the above compound are possessed of excellent water-proofing properties ,while the leathers are light in weight.
