During the War of Resistance against Japan (1937-1945), the KMT Regime that ruled in Chongqing, the then second capital of the country after the fall of Nanjing, took a contradictory position towards the foreign journalists and correspondents who stayed there: on the one hand, it depended on and made the best of the latter, and on the other, it tried every means possible to control and restrain the latter. Reaping as what it had sown, it proved a loser in all regards.
