The effects of metal (Cu2+,Zn2+ )with different concentrations on the electro-olfactogram (EOG)response of fish (Tilapia sp. )are studied by perfusing CuSO4 and ZnSO4 solutions through the olfactory organs, and the differences are compared. The probable mechanism and real significance of the EOG as bioassay index are discussed. The results indicated that:1) the log value of DL-Methionine dose -the EOG response may be described as exponential function relationship in normal fish,R=21. 0 (10Log/4.935 ); 2 ) the EOG responses to 10-5 mol/L methionine stimulant in fish can be inhibited by Cu2+ and Zn2+,and the degree of inhibition is increased with increase in metal concentration; 3) the inhibited effect of copper is more 10 times than that of zinc;the effective IC50 for Cu2+ is 22. 38μg/L,and that for Zn2+ is 354. 81μg/L.
