From the angle of environmental ethics, the paper perceives a new Isaac's growingup experience in the wilderness and the connotation of hunting in Faulkner's The Bear. It thereby expounds the intrinsic values of Nature, the conflict between Nature and Technology, as well as the sign/ficance of "ream1 to wilderness". It also explores fialher the American "fi'onticr history" which reflects in the story. American developing technology and civilization foreshadows the variations of the ethical relationship between Man and Nature. This relationship can be alienated or harmonious; Nature can be conquered or left to its own existence. Thus, Faulkner's concern about ecology and his view of environmental ethics are evidently shown in The Bear.
