The famous nerve scientists Gerald M. Edelman and Giulio Tononi make a new analysis and generalization to the problem of consciousness that is noted as a world enigma. They develop the enigma into a subject that is not only fit for philosophical exploration but also for scientific research. On the basis of much empirical research, they put forward new theoretical categories such as Reentry, the Reentrant Dynamic Core, Theory of Neuronal Group Selection and offers some interpretative patterns at the same time, which make a new explanation to the relevant enigmas that are concerned with consciousness. That not only negates the conventional theories of dualism and reductionism but also helps us draw some thought-provoking conclusions such as people without mind and cerebral activities without center.
