The nematode anticoagulant peptides (NAP)are a family of antithrombotic non-enzymatic peptides of low molecular weights. They are isolated from adult Ancylostoma caninum and are composed of around 75 to 85 amino acids with a homology of 22 % . Since NAPs have demonstrated potent and prominent anticoagulant activity, long halflife, excellent bioavailability, and relative low price, they are developed to be promising therapeutic agents in the treatment and prevention of thrombotic disorders. One of the family members, NAPc2 has entered the Phase Ⅲ clinical trial in the United States of America. Recent progresses on NAP are reviewed.
