Abstract Fei and Ye (1983)described Pseudohynboius for Hynobius flavomaculatus Fei and Ye,1982,and moved Ranodon tsinpamis Liu and Hu,1966 to their new genus. In this paper a detail cotnparison between flavomaculatus and tsinpaensis is given in Chinese text.The com-parison between genera Ranodon and Pseudohgnobius is also given in Chinese text, and in English as follows:Pseudohynobius(Diagnosis given by Fei and Ye,1983)Ranodon(Synthesize Kessler,1866,Dunn,1923 ,Zhao and Hu,1984,and Zhao,1994)An oblique maxilla ,widely separated fromthe pterygoid bone;intermaxillary spaceequal to interquadrate width.A short series of vomerine teeth,7-17 innumber, in shape, with the innerbranch slightly longer than the outerbranch, and its inner tip beginning fromthe posterior tip and the inner side of theos vonieropalatinum.A large fontanelle between the premaxil-lary and nasal bones.The lachrymal touches the external naresand touches or does not touch the orbit.Its menibers possess 11-13 costalgrooves and 4 fingers and 5 toes ,withouta horny covering on the palm and sole ,Not given. [Fei and Ye,1983 gave sucha characteristics measured from a figureappeared in Chang (1936) ]Vomerine teeth in two short separatedseries between two choanae.A premaxillary fontanelle.Lachrymal bone entering both orbit andnasal fossa.Costal grooves 11-13;4 fingers and 5toes ino horny covering to palms andtoes ;no labial fold.Based on the coinparisons above we consider that the genus Pseudohynforus Fei and Ye,1983 should be a synonym of the genus Ranodon Kessler, 1866. Thus,tsinpaensis should bereturned to the genus Ranodon designed by Liu and Hu in 1966. Based on detail comparisonof two original descriptions of uinpaensis and flavomaculatus ,there no distinct morphologicaldifferences can be recognized (see Chinese text). Therefore, Pseudohynobius flavomaculatus(Fei and Ye,1982) should be a synonym of Ranodon tsinpaensis Liu and Hu,1966.
