The traditional idea proposes that granites on the east and west Pacific Ocean are different. According to field investigations of the geology of the Western Unites States coupled with the authors' long-term studies on granites in South China, granites both in eastern China and in the western United States are similar. Geological, petrological, mineralogical, geochemical and isotopic data show that: ①the ages of granites on both coasts are mainly Mesozoic; ②the granites can be also divided into two series: the deep-source Yangtze series (series Ⅱ) and the shallow-source Nanling series (series Ⅰ); ③series Ⅱ granites mainly occur in coastal regions at both sides of the Pacific Ocean while series Ⅰ granites are distributed in the interiors beyond the coasts; ④granites on both coasts have similar metallogenic features: Fe, Cu, Au, Mo, W, Zn, Pb and Ag mineralizations are associated with series Ⅱ granites and REE, Nb(Ta), Sn and Be mineralizations are related to series Ⅰ; ⑤tectonic settings and evolutions of granites are also comparable in the two regions.
