The major characteristics of financial performance in May 2005 were as follows:money supply M2 and all RMB loans increased steadily year-on-year;medium and long-term loan growth decelerated markedly,thus continuing to narrow the gap with the growth of short-term loans and paper financing;savings deposits increased steadily and new enterprise loan growth accelerated from the previous year;the RMB counterpart for foreign exchange reserves continued its rapid rise;the money market recorded active trading,and market interest rates stood at a comparatively low level.
