《世界外交大辞典》“外交”条目提供了外交新定义,是在外交学中国化方面所作的尝试。新定义有如下理论特色:1.以中国的立场和观点来研究和表述一般外交学的普遍学理;2.突出主权和外交的关系;3.把“维护本国利益”和“实现对外政策”并列为外交的两大使命;4.把外交采用的方式限定为和平方式;5.兼容“狭义”和“广义”两种含义下的外交;此外还列举了不同含义外交所具有的共同特性。
The Dictionary on World's Diplomacy offers. in its entry 'Diplomacy', a new definition which represents an earnest effort at 'making the science of diplomacy Chinese'. The new definition has the following theoretical features: first-studying and expounding general diplomatic theories from China's viewpoint; second-laying stress on the relationship between sovereignty and diplomacy; third-affirming 'the defense of the interests of a state' and 'the implementation of its foreign policy' as the two main missions of diplomacy; fourth-confining the methods employed by diplomacy to peaceful means; and fifth-embracing diplomacy in both its restricted and broad senses in one definition. The entry 'Diplomacy' also enumerates several common features that diplomacy in any sense should posses.
