摘要
林语堂是“五四”以来中国现代文化文学史上一位风格独特的文化学者,剖析林语堂的传统文化观,可以发现林语堂对中国文化最深层、最独特的认识即是对儒教思想的体悟。林语堂把儒教的精神本质归结为一种近情入理的“人文主义”,即所谓中国的“人文主义”。他对这种人文主义精神心悦诚服,并对达到这种“中国式的人文主义”的“情理”精神,即“中庸”之道大为叹服。他赞扬儒家注重实际生活及在社交上有用的教育,坚持认为孔子是一个近情的人。林语堂还总结出“中国式人文主义”的发端在于明理,但他对孔子不关心“上帝是否存在”这一点不满意。
Lin Yutang had been a cultural scholar in the history of modern Chinese culture and literature since the May 4th Movement. People will find out that his deepest and most peculiar recognition of Chinese culture was the appreciation of Confucian ideology by analysing lin’s viewpoint of traditional culture. Lin Yutang summed up the essence of the spirit of Confucianism as a rational “humanism”, i.e. so called humanism of China’s type. He worshipped humanism of this kind and admired “ration” spirit of humanism of China’s type — the doctrine of the mean. He sang the high praises of laying the emphasis on practical life and useful education in social contact, insisting that Confucius should be sentimental man. Lin Yutang concluded that the origin of humanism of China’s type lay in makineg a clear distinction between right and wrong, but he was not happy with the fact that Confucius showed no concern about the existence of God.
