摘要
艾米丽是《凯恩河》中的一个重要的人物,作为第三代与白人结合的产物,她的肤色已经被彻底漂白了;同时在她的内心深处她也内化了白人的价值观念。可是这一切并没有改变她本人和儿女的命运,黑人熔入白人社会的历程是艰难的,他们必须在不忘记自己的根的前提下勇敢地捍卫自己的尊严。
Emily is a major character in Cane River. As a daughter of the fourth generation mixed blood beauty, her skin has already been as white as typical descendant's from Europe. At the same time she has completely accepted the value standard of the white. However she and her kids still can't avoid the life full of tragedy. Thus we can see it is a hard journey for the black to become a true American. They have to save their dignity by sticking to their roots.
