Salt is a very important factor affecting soil corrosiveness. The relationship between salt content and electrode potentials of metals in soils has been studied. It was found that, the more the salt content of soil, the more negative the copper electrode potential, and the more positive the steel electrode potential. But it was very complicated for aluminum electrode potential. A metal in different soils could exhibit various POtentials, on the other hand, different metals also had different potentials in the same kind of soil. The orders, copper>steel>aluminum, could be got.A large potential difference between copper and steel or aluminum existed, but there was only a few difference in electrode potential between steel and aluminum. It is interesting that, the potential reverse of aluminum against steel happened in red soil without salt adding. In addition, the research on the variation of electrode potentials of metals in soils was also conducted. The fluctuations of potentials of steel and copper were not distinct within 216 hours at room temperature. However, the shift of aluminum potential was very significant.
