发达国家成人高等教育在高教大众化进程中形成了多样性和开放性特征，并成为高教大众化时期的重要办学力量。随着现代科技的迅猛发展、社会结构的深刻变革、教育民主化思潮及终身教育思想的广泛传播等对成人教育的影响，发达国家成人高等教育表现出注重质量、终身化、现代化、社会化、法制化等强劲的发展趋势。
Adult higher education in developed countries evolved the characters of diversity and opening in the process of popular higher education,became an important power of running schools in the time of popular higher education,and showed some powerful tendencies of paying attention to quality,being lifelong,modernization,socialization,and being ruled by law with the influence of rapidly developing of modern science and technologies,deeply transforming of social structure,widely spreading of thoughts on democratic education and lifelong education.
