摘要
作为二十世纪的美国南方作家 ,福克纳深受南方传统思想和传统价值观的影响 ,他的作品如同他的一些公开演讲一样明显对南方传统文化怀有浓重的认同感和超越感。他在这双重情感的斗争中 ,犹豫过、徘徊过 ,但他最终克服了自己的局限。他在对人和人性的深层的哲理思考和痛苦的精神探索过程中 ,寻找人类不朽的价值和普遍的意义 ,成为了二十世纪美国最伟大。
s:As an American writer in the 20 th century,William Faulkner was deeply influenced by the traditional thoughts and values of the South.Tortured by the heavy burdens of self-identification and transcendence demonstrated both in his public speeches and in his works towards the southern culture,he became bewildered and lost himself.However,he overcame his shortcomings and began to probe for the values and general meaning of human beings in the process of thinking about the deep philosophical reasons and spiritual groping of human beings as well as humanity,thus,became the greatest and most level-headed writer in the south of America in the 20 th century.
