摘要
There are quite a number of oversea Chinese who live in Singapore but they speak and learn Chinese as a second foreign language. Most oversea Chinese both in Singapore and the world have shown great concerns to this phenomenon. Then through their effort, the education of Chinese and other languages have co-existed since last century. Therefore, the edˉucation of Chinese is not a national problemnor a sensitive issue, but the development of its own education is not so optimistic and problems still exist. With these in view, the paper provides correlative reference about these problems and the solutions to the present plight of the Chinese language caused by Singapore’s language policies and reality. Then it suggests opportunities and challenges the oversea Chinese will face in their development of the education.
