It is analyzed on the regional evolution process and distribution feature of towns in Tarim Basin from the periods of primitive tribes, Thirty—six Kingdoms of the Western Regions, tribes for opening up wasteland in the Western Han Dynasty to modern times and present. The following results have been obtained:1. The location of towns has not been changed so much in the western and northern parts of the basin, but in its eastern and southern parts.2. The regional evolution history of towns in the basin is a process from proportion to improportion, and its decisive factor is the water redistribution.3. There is no a central city all along, but a pattern of multicenters appears around the basin.
