Hua Du, written by Ye Xin, portrays a series of middle-aged women who once went to live and work in a production team in the countryside and were constrained mentally and psychologically. It is the so-called sociologist who freed them and made them the unbridled women of the metropolis. While Lin Yue, the present radio announcer, and Luo Xiu-yin, the film star of old Shanghai, match each other very well, Xiao Qiu, the hourly working-girl from the countryside foretells the future of modern women in Shanghai. Compared with the characters of Ye Xin's other fiction, these ardent middle-age women in Hua Du have many new features of Shanghai school of writers' literary works.
