It is a common idea in the academic world that the Lisus and Nus in the upper areas of the Nu River and the Lancang River are the descendants of the ancient Diqiang nomadic people, who migrated along the northwestern area to the southwestern area of Dian. However, there has been a heated discussion and a long time study on how the ancient people migrated to the Nujiang area, how they developed into two different ethnic groups, and what was the process of becoming different out of the isogeny. By combining the ethnological and linguistic materials and research approaches, this paper, based on historical documents, poses into the reasons why the ethnic peoples of the same origin developed differently as well as the clues for the development.
