The small cluster of western style buildings on the famous Shanghai Bund, now home for a number of banks, restaurants and government offices, were among the first in China to be designed and constructed by foreigners. As part of the city's glamour, they extend a touch of nostalgia and exoticism. But, altiaougia these buildings now represent a by-gone age, the influence of architecture with foreign origin remains an important element of China's construction industry.
